The U.S. Department of Labor's Rapid Response Unit (2024) reports that "Being laid off from one's job is one of the most traumatic events a Worker will experience in life". After losing a job due to a company closure or massive layout, people experience several emotions that disrupt their natural tendencies to behave at their best. For example, ANGER is a feeling of workplace betrayal without support or care. GRIEF is a feeling of sadness or despair due to loss of income or the support of coworkers. FEAR is a feeling of being unemployable because they lack the skills or connections to get that next job. SHOCK is a feeling of unbelief. These feelings just don't go away, they merely go underground. Also, some of these same workers are recovering from the 2024 natural disasters of Hurricanes Milton, Helene & Debby, enough to warrant an emotional hi-jack.
Studies show that we have two minds, one that thinks and one that feels (EI Consortium, 2024), and both are critical in decision making (Maxwell, 2002). This online forum presents the perspectives of the Art of Scripture & the Science of Emotional Intelligence.
The Art of Scripture - Literature is an Art, and Scripture is a collection of literary artifacts with individuals of all temperaments & backgrounds to accomplish a purpose often with Divine Intervention (DI).
The Science of Emotional Intelligence (EI) - EI is a Science, and the state of being sensitive to and understanding of one's own emotions & impulses in efforts to improve employability.
Mission: to prepare Displaced Workers (i.e., People-Assets) in perseverance and mitigate emotional hijacks with the Art of Scripture and the Science of Emotional Intelligence (EI).
Goal: to become an EI resource for People-Assets affected by job loss or involuntary career transition.
W.A.R.N. is The Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. Its primary objective is to provide employees with advance notice of impending job loss, affording them time to seek alternative employment, pursue retraining opportunities, and mitigate the financial hardships associated with sudden unemployment.
Face it, Name it, Tame it with EI/EQ
